Dental Implant Treatment Planning – Simplified
An outline of a typical course of treatment when Dental Implants are placed. If you are referred from your own dentist for Dental Implants, several of these steps can be conducted at your local practice by your own dentist.
Step 1 – Examination and Basic Radiographic Investigation
After the examination and radiographic investigation you will be informed of possible treatment options and routes that your treatment can take. If necessary a CT-Scanning will be scheduled during the same session. Such an appointment is expected to last approximately 30-60 minutes.
Step 2 – Written Treatment Plan
A written treatment plan will be sent to you with the treatment options discussed as well as the estimated costs involved.
Step 3 – Diagnostic Phase
During this appointment we will take clinical photos of you and impressions of your teeth. If necessary a wax model will be created as well as a surgical guide – an instrument created to be able to place the dental implant in the optimal location of your jaw. Such an appointment is expected to last approximately 45-60 minutes.
Step 4 – Surgical Procedure
The Dental Implants will be placed and if necessary a minor Bone Grafting procedure will be done in the same session. Normally all treatment is performed under local anaesthetic but if requested we can offer different types of sedation or general anaesthesia. We aim to provide each patient with new temporary teeth during the same day. In all other cases we will provide you with a different temporary solution. An appointment for placing 1-3 implants is expected to last approximately 60-90 minutes.
Step 5 – Post Surgical Review
A short appointment to make sure the healing of your gums is well. Appointment expected to last 15 minutes.
Step 6 – Healing Phase
A healing phase of 8-16 weeks is required after the Dental Implants has been inserted. During this time the bone grows around the implant (osseointegration) and is soon ready to be fitted with a crown.
Step 7 – Impressions
Impressions are taken of the implants from which your new teeth (crown) will be made. Such an appointment is expected to last approximately 30-60 minutes.
Step 8 – Fitting
1-2 weeks after the impressions were made your new teeth will be ready and your crown fixed to your Dental Implant. Such an appointment is expected to last approximately 30-60 minutes.
Step 9 – Final Review
A final review is usually desired approximately 2-4 weeks after the crown has been fitted. Appointment expected to last 15 minutes.
